In 2016, 100 million+ Americans did not vote. The grassroots effort that delivered a Doug Jones victory in Alabama this month wasn’t just about voter registration. It was about talking to people about their power, and it started long before the election. So many opportunities to get people excited.

AGAIN AND ALWAYS, HEALTH CARE

The tax bill included a repeal of the ACA mandate to buy insurance, so DJT boasted that he’d killed Obamacare. But 8.8 million Americans just signed up. People care about health care. People are paying attention.

CONGRESS

Holiday office hours are all over the board. Email works 24/7.

Do the Democrats in Congress have any power in upcoming budget votes? Can they influence a DACA solution? Restore children’s health insurance?

FRIENDS DON’T LET FRIENDS DRIVE DRUNK

Last week, the U.N. voted 128-9 to condemn the U.S. for the plan to move our embassy to Jerusalem. The U.K., France, Japan, and Germany were among the 129. It was a symbolic action, but our closest friends were taking a stand against an isolated, bullying America. Do Americans want to see the U.S. condemned by our allies? What will it take to get more of us to vote?

TAKING YOUR STAND

Former New Orleans mayor Marc Morel took a stand on the tax bill, and how it benefits the 1% (6:45 in clip): If we had 10 sandwiches to serve, one person would get eight and the remaining nine people would get two. It’s funny. It’s sad. You get it. When you hear good explanations of important issues, keep ’em in your pocket. Think about issues you want to talk about when you knock on doors to elect progressive candidates in 2018.
